The stomach already feels full. The medication slows gastric emptying, and high-fat food may slow it further. High-fat meals trigger cholecystokinin release, which is associated with slower gastric emptying.
Large meal volume is another problem. Gastric distension activates mechanoreceptors in the stomach wall that may increase nausea signaling — smaller, more frequent meals reduce stomach wall stretch and are often easier to tolerate.
Alcohol may worsen reflux or nausea symptoms — on GLP-1 where motility is already reduced, this may compound GI side effects.
